DraftKings Preview: Cognizant Classic event happening in The Palm Beaches.
Stats for making your picks at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches |
The event will feature a strong field of athletes including world No. 2 Rory McIlroy, Matt Fitzpatrick, Cameron Young and defending champion Chris Kirk. Here are three of my favorite plays from DraftKings this week.
SHANE LOWRY ($9,300)
PGA National is one of Lowry's favorite courses on the PGA Tour. In his six career starts, he has never missed the cut here, and at every course he has recorded T2 and T5 finishes.
For the past two years. Lowry has always been a grinder that we target on the tougher courses, and PGA National is always one of the toughest courses on the PGA Tour, so it's amazing to see the Irishman succeed here. That's not the point.
The former British champion ranks fifth in the field in strokes from tee to green per round and total SG: per round among players who have made multiple career starts at PGA National. The last time we saw him at the WM Phoenix Open, Lowry's putter was ice cold and he finished a disappointing T60. But he had shots in every other category during his week at TPC Scottsdale and has had three weeks of preparation for this event ever since, and has always looked ready. Despite his recent poor form, Lowry is still ranked 10th in the SG: Tee to Green rankings over the past 48 rounds and is expected to return to normal this week. He is one of the strongest players on the board with $9,300. Sepp Straka ($8,600)
Straka overcame a rain delay to hold off Shane Lowry at this event in 2022 for his first PGA Tour victory. Straka then followed this up with a T5 last year, and two years before his win he had a T33 and a T27 result. The Austrian has his eyes set on PGA National.
Of all the players who have competed in this event multiple times, no one has averaged more strokes per round at PGA National than Straka. He missed out on the Genesis Invitational, but he's been hitting the ball all week, so I'm not too worried. Before that, Straka started the year on a high note with a 26th place at Pebble Beach (AT&T Pebble Beach his Pro-Am), a 12th place at Kapalua (The Sentry), and a solo 2nd place at the Hero World Challenge. . It's not often you find a former tournament winner in good condition for just $8,600, making Straka one of the most valuable titles on our list.
ADAM SVENSSON ($7,700)
Svensson has been in the spotlight this week as one of the few players to have played in the tournament multiple times without missing out. He has competed at PGA National three times, with his best finish coming in 2022 (T9). Svensson has his SG per round on this course: Tee Greens also ranks him 9th in this area. He finished in the top 10 for the first time in his last start at Genesis in 2024, and his play was great off the tee. Svensson took over 2.1 strokes on approach, tee shot and green at Riviera. The Canadian has always been known for his elite long iron play, and that proved to be paramount at PGA National. This season, Svensson ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in approach shots from 175 to 200 yards from the fairway. He has a lot of boxes for me for only $7,700.
