NBA star Victor Wembanyama has signed a long-term deal with the San Antonio Spurs.
According to ESPN, the 7-foot-4-inch French center has a five-year contract worth $252 million (£188 million), the NBA's highest amount for a rookie-scale player extension.
According to reports, the 22-year-old has a fifth-season option and could have chosen to add clauses to increase the deal's value, but he chose not to do so in order to give the Spurs more financial freedom.I'm here to stay, Spurs family. Whatever it takes," Wembanyama commented on social media before the agreement was made public.
The Spurs advanced to the NBA Finals last season because to the two-time All-Star, who was selected first overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. However, they were defeated 4-1 by the New York Knicks in the best-of-seven series, which prevented them from winning the championship.
Wembanyama received all 100 first-place votes, making him the youngest player to win the NBA defensive player-of-the-year award.
In 64 regular-season games during the 2025–26 season, he averaged career highs of 25 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. He also had a league-high 3.1 blocks per game.
