Player ratings for Spain vs. France: Pedro Porro and Mikel Oyarzabal guarantee a position in the World Cup final for the dominant European winners, while Rodri leads La Roja.

Spain defeated France 2-0 on Tuesday to guarantee their spot in the 2026 World Cup final. Mikel Oyarzabal's penalty and Pedro Porro's goal in the second half gave La Roja the victory in a commanding performance in Dallas that will have intimidated Argentina and England as they go ready for their own semifinal.

Spain controlled the ball from the start and seized the lead halfway through the first half when Oyarzabal scored a perfect penalty after Lucas Digne fouled Lamine Yamal in the France penalty area. La Roja also had a chance to make it 2-0, but after some deft passing by Yamal and Dani Olmo, Fabian Ruiz's attempt was stopped.

After halftime, the game's trend persisted, and Spain extended their lead when Porro skillfully finished past Mike Maignan after trading passes with Olmo on the edge of the box.

Soon after, Yamal appeared to have made it three when he broke away and curled a shot into the top corner. However, the teenager's jubilation was stopped short when it was determined that he was just offside.

With the exception of a few off-target shots from Kylian Mbappe, France struggled to regain the lead and set up a spectacular climax.

Goalkeeper & Defence

Unai Simon (7/10):

Although he was never forced to make a significant save, he did a fantastic job of racing off his line to stop Mbappe from running in on goal in the first half.

Pedro Porro (8/10):

Initially faced some challenging moments against Barcola, but improved both defensively and in possession as the game progressed. Demonstrated remarkable composure to score Spain's second goal.

Pau Cubarsi (9/10):

Demonstrates exceptional game awareness, consistently making blocks and interceptions in and around his own penalty area. Demonstrated his dribbling skills on multiple occasions during an impressive performance.

Aymeric Laporte (8/10):

Demonstrated all his expertise in organizing the Spain defense against the country where he was born. Demonstrated a balance of physicality and composure.

Marc Cucurella (8/10):

After receiving a booking, Real Madrid's new left-back demonstrated excellent decision-making by successfully securing both Olise and Dembele.

Midfield

Fabian Ruiz (7/10):

Knitted things together effectively in midfield, despite some of his more daring passes not succeeding. Might believe he should have netted a goal in the first half when Upamecano thwarted his attempt from close range.

Rodri (9/10):

The 2024 Ballon d'Or winner put on another commanding performance. Won tackles, controlled the pace of the game with his passing, and directed all of Spain's successful plays.

Dani Olmo (9/10):

performed quite well in confined spaces, driving forward with the ball and displaying some deft back-to-goal touches, most notably to help score the second goal.

Attack

Lamine Yamal (8/10):

Used cunning to win the penalty in a moment that perfectly captured how he ran Digne ragged the entire time. It was unfortunate that his goal was disallowed due to a close offside.

Mikel Oyarzabal (8/10):

Although he wasn't always prominently involved, his penalty was unstoppable, and he occasionally dropped deep to create the extra man that sparked Spain's assaults with some deft touches.

Alex Baena (6/10):

Despite not making much of an impact in the last third, he put in a strong shift down the Spain left.

Subs & Manager

Ferran Torres (5/10):

came on for Oyarzabal and headed wide while in a good position to make it 3-0.

Mikel Merino (6/10):

He came on for Olmo, so his late heroics weren't needed here.

Pedri (6/10):

made a few spectacular dribbles throughout his brief appearance.

Marcos Llorente (N/A):

Gave Porro a rest for the final few minutes.

Nico Williams (N/A):

Had a couple of bursts down the left after coming on for Baena.

Luis de la Fuente (9/10):

A team that many thought was the finest in the tournament was completely subjugated by his team. He once again demonstrated how he can bring out the best in some incredibly gifted football players, and his players hardly made a mistake.
