Andre Onana makes a personal promise to fans after Everton win
Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has confidently declared that he can do "more" after his improved form in recent months. United needed to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat in the Manchester derby as the race for the top four began to heat up. We couldn't afford to drop points against Everton. Fortunately, the Toffees calmed the nerves by awarding a penalty within 10 minutes, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to confidently run into the box and win. Bruno Fernandes scored a penalty and, surprisingly, the visitors conceded a follow-up shortly after. Fernandes, United's usual penalty taker, passed the ball to Marcus Rashford, who sent the ball the other way to Jordan Pickford, who fired into the bottom left corner.
Everton created a number of chances throughout the 90 minutes but rarely looked like they were behind the goal, with Onana recording his eighth clean sheet in the league. With this win, they now have an eight-point gap with fourth-placed Aston Villa, and Unai Emery's side will face fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon.
Reflecting on his own performance in an interview with MUTV, Onana said: From now on, every match is like a final.
“I had to be brave because I was playing against a very strong opponent. I was especially happy that we got the first goal in the first half. We are ready for the next match. ”
The interviewer told Onana that he had the second-highest number of clean sheets in the league this season, to which he replied, "That means we have a good defense.'' We are very happy with this figure because defenders, midfielders and attackers sacrifice themselves for the team and that is what we work for.
“It’s not just that, it’s so much more. It took me seven months to recover in Manchester, so first of all I'm really happy to have everyone's support as these are tough times.
“When I first arrived here, I received a lot of support from the fans, my teammates and the club. I'm better now and I'm very happy.
“You’re going to see a lot more of me, believe me. I hope we can fight for great things in the coming years. Winning the Champions League is very important, so I hope we can finish in the top four this season."
