The NBA is rolling out an immersive, state-of-the-art LED track ahead of the All-Star Game.
The NBA All-Star Game is underway and all the flashing lights will be there. Literally. During All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, which begins on February 16, the NBA will use LED floors to provide spectacular moments at one of the league's most important events. The league has promised that the field will be used to show live replays, offer location-based player tracking and use immersive animations during events.
It is not the first time that LED rails have been introduced at sporting events. FIBA used a floor designed by ASB GlassFloor during the U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in 2023. This concept received so much positive feedback that it makes sense for the NBA to use it again. This isn't new to the NBA's thought process either. Carlton Myers, the NBA's director of live production and entertainment, told Forbes on Monday that the league has been looking at LED courts for "about eight years."
"The technology is there now and we're very comfortable with it," he said. "Now is the time to do it."
Myers is excited about the impact it will have on the fan experience.
"What we're doing and how we're using it is very innovative and very exciting for our fans," Myers said. "Things that normally appear on the jumbotron now appear next to the live action on the floor."
Various events are scheduled at LED Field, including the All-Star Game on February 16 and the All-Star Game on February 16. There are 17 skill challenges, contests and 3-point challenges, slam dunk events and more.
Myers explains that the possibilities for courtroom speaking are "endless."
"You can use any image you want," he said. "You can put whatever design you want in it. Sometimes we focused on making it very dynamic, but we also wanted the colors to be very intense, so it was automatically like, 'Wow, this is different.'
